What is a Dharma Door?
What is dharma? What is a dharma door? How do I find and open mine?
Dharma can be defined as a 'body of teachings, used to open the student's mind, to the reality of things as they are.' What body of teachings is this for you? What is the 'reality of things as they are' to you?
Dharma can also be defined as your path, your duty, where you are in right relationship to work/livelihood, community, nature and yourself. Your dharma, in the words of Frederick Beuchner who was describing true vocation, can be the place where "your deepest gladness meets the world's deep need." Dharma can also be defined as your spiritual path, which you define yourself. Because each person's dharma is unique, there are thousands of different ways onto this path, thousands of different dharma doors. What are your dharma doors? What helps you to be more present and alive?
Abbi's dharma doors have been yoga, Thai massage, dance, meditation and wilderness instructing. These are the doors I can help open for others. My deepest desire is to provide space for others to show up, be present and explore. The image of the web of community is also very potent for me. I have spent 17 years in Vermont and feel connected to many of the offerings that exist in this area. My hope is to serve as a dharma door to other dharma doors, and to be able to connect others with the dharma doors that best suit them.
Thank you to flowing serendipity, the opportunity for training, lots of experimenting, great friends and trust. I feel rooted and blossoming on my dharma path. I am grateful for the opportunity to live fully and serve and love my community. I look forward to all of the learning and presence to come.
Thank you for visiting this site.
In service and love,
Abbi
I appreciate this quote:
"Dharma is not about credentials. It’s not about how many practices you’ve done, or how peaceful you can make your mind. It’s not about being in a community where you feel safe or enjoying the cachet of being a 'Buddhist.' It’s not even about accumulating teachings, empowerments, or 'spiritual accomplishments.' It’s about how naked you’re willing to be with your own life, and how much you’re willing to let go of your masks and your armor and live as a completely exposed, undefended, and open human person." ~Reginald Ray
